Quranic Arabic Course: Understand the Words You Recite
The Quranic Arabic course at Daad Academy is for Muslims who recite the Quran and want to understand it. Lessons are live and one-to-one, in Arabic and English, with native Arabic-speaking teachers who are graduates of Al-Azhar University. This page explains what the Quranic Arabic course is, what you will study, who the course suits and how to tell whether you are ready to start.
What Is Quranic Arabic?
Quranic Arabic is the Classical Arabic in which the Quran is written. It rests on the same foundations as the Arabic used today, but its vocabulary, word forms and sentence style are classical. Studying it means learning the language through the Quran itself: the words that appear most often, the roots they come from, and the grammar that holds each verse together. The aim is not to memorise translations, but to build the ability to follow the text with growing understanding.
Quranic Arabic or Modern Standard Arabic?
The two share the same grammar foundations but serve different goals. Modern Standard Arabic is the formal written Arabic of books, news and official writing. Quranic Arabic is aimed at understanding the Quran. If the Quran is your main goal, the Quranic Arabic course is the more direct route once you can read Arabic letters. If you want formal Arabic for study or work, the Modern Standard Arabic course may suit you better.
What You Will Study in the Quranic Arabic Course
- Vocabulary: the Quran’s most frequent words, grouped by theme.
- Roots: how a three-letter root links related words, so one root helps you recognise many words.
- Verbs and sentences: how Quranic sentences are built and how verbs change by tense, person and gender.
- Word endings: why endings change, with an introduction to i‘rab.
- Real verses: putting all of this to work on ayat with your teacher.

Who Benefits Most From the Quranic Arabic Course
Many learners join because they recite in prayer every day and feel a gap between the words they say and the meaning behind them. Others have memorised the Quran and want to understand what they carry. If that is you, our online Hifz program helps you memorise, and the Quranic Arabic course helps you understand. New Muslims also find it a clear way to meet the Quran in its own language, one step at a time.
How a One-to-One Lesson Works
In a private Quranic Arabic course, your teacher works only with you. A typical session may revise earlier vocabulary, introduce a new grammar idea through Quranic examples, and then read a verse together so you see the idea at work. You can ask questions as they arise, and explanations are given in English or Arabic, depending on what helps you most. Because the pace follows you, a point that needs more time gets more time.
How to Study Between Lessons
Understanding grows with repetition. Try to meet the Quran’s words often: read a short passage each day, look for words you have learned, and write down any question to bring to your next lesson. A notebook of new words, grouped by root, makes them easier to recognise the next time you hear them in prayer or recitation.
Be Realistic About the Journey
Understanding the Quran is gradual, not a switch that turns on at a set date. Vocabulary comes first, then sentences, then verses. How quickly you move through the Quranic Arabic course depends on your starting point, how often you study and how much you practise between lessons. That is why your teacher sets milestones with you, so you can see your progress step by step instead of guessing.
Where This Course Fits in Your Arabic Journey
The Quranic Arabic course is usually the later step on the adult Arabic path. A common route runs from learn Arabic online, through beginner and adult classes, to formal Arabic and grammar, and then to the Quran. Adults who want a wider plan can also look at Arabic classes for adults, which includes a Quranic track.
